CHAPTER 1: The Interview
The day had finally come for Apprentice Harper to be inducted into The Order, a fraternal organization that promoted morality as well as fellowship amongst its members. The dirty-blond small-town boy made sure to put on a crisp suit so he looked as professional as possible. His parents hadn’t really approved of many paths he had contemplated taking once he went out on his own, but this was one that they both responded well to. The young man wanted to prove to them that he could make it out in the real world. He was determined to see this through.
With his parents having distilled a firm sense of right and wrong into the eager apprentice, Harper never hesitated in believing that this was the right thing to do. He wanted to help guide others into that same mindset. It felt aligned with his upbringing and managed to gain both of his parents’ support when he pitched it as a possibility.
CHAPTER 2: Atonement
I was summoned for a meeting in four days. When I asked about it, I was told that I would be instructed beforehand. As the day grew near, my nerves were on end, not knowing what to do or study. Finally, the day before I was taken aside by one of the masters and was told that the meeting was for my advancement in the masonic priesthood. The ceremony was called the Atonement. Of course, I went to my other brothers and asked them about it. A few chuckled, and one of them said, “open wide”. When I asked what he meant. He looked at me, trying not to smile, and said that every boy has to go through it, all of them have, including himself. I was still a bundle of nerves.
At the appointed time, I was there dressed in the full suit that is required. Master Kamp called me in, waving me over. Once I entered the room, I saw Mr. Smith and Master Scott seated next to each other behind this odd looking narrow table, but it wasn’t a table because I noticed that it was not flat on top. Master Kamp said, “Prepare the stretcher”. OMG! I did hear one of the other guys mention “stretching” but he was shushed by the other apprentices. And, before I could think twice, Mr. Smith slowly pulled the cloth from the top of that odd table, which was really a bench. I saw them revealed slowly, one….at….a….time! Butt plugs were bolted to the bench ranging from normal to HUGE! I was in sensory overload and SO not prepared for this. Not only was I afraid of what was going to happen, I was on display like a fattened pig at a county fair, in a small arena with an audience. What next, are they going to sell popcorn? I looked up and Master Kamp had this sinister smile on his face, the same as he had in my interview.
CHAPTER 3: The Covenant
This morning was my Covenant ceremony. It doesn’t mean that my training is over. I’m just moving up from Apprentice to Initiate. I don’t know how many ranks there are in the Order. The highest levels are so secret that you don’t even know they exist until you are invited to be raised up. This is the beginning, though. From today forward, unless I do something to discredit myself, or The Order, I am a member of the brotherhood. I think I would almost die before I would betray my brothers.
It has been such an incredible year. Even though I wanted this, I had no idea what I was asking for. I’m a better man today. I had hoped for that, but I’ve received so much more. I can honestly say that I’m an entirely different man. I understand now why the apprenticeship is supposed to be kept secret. The rituals could be described, but there is no way to explain what they mean, what they do to you when you experience them yourself.
