CHAPTER 1: THE INTERVIEW
Apprentice Steele had always been an obedient boy. He grew up in a military household with his single father, and never questioned following the orders of the person he was meant to respect as his superior. It was this mentality that led him to exploring opportunities within The Order. Despite the organization’s mission statement being one that lacked transparency, limiting the details of its activities to those who were fully initiated into its membership, it seemed like the type of environment that the young man sought to thrive in.
He had mentally prepared for his interview with Master Jake extensively before coming to the official building, wanting to make sure he provided them with the answers they wanted to hear. The older blond gentleman proceeded to interrogate the potential apprentice, taking note of the change in his physical demeanor with each question. The boy sat calmly in the chair with his hands resting over his lap, but as the questions probed deeper into what he was willing to confess, the older man leading the interview could see that his applicant became more restless as the questions became more personal. Finally, the handsome Elder explained what the members of The Order would need to ask him to demonstrate his level of commitment to the truth he was telling them…if it really was the truth.
